Golder Laptop Scholarship 2021
We are proud to initiate a partnership with New Moms Chicago! At New Moms, women ages 18-24 attend classes in the Job Training program where they get assistance in building their resumes and searching for employment. You can imagine how much more difficult a task this is in our current economic climate! We very much believe that the moms in the Job Training program deserve a 1:1 device ratio. We granted enough money to purchase 11 laptops, so that when there is a class of 20, every mom has access to the technology necessary to maximize her learning.
Now that Moms are able to be back in the classroom, they have reported “how much faster they are than our old ones. They are much appreciated, and will be a great resource to us, as so many participants are now searching for employment.” Thank you to all of our donors for making this year’s donations possible!

We are so proud to have named our next four Golder Laptop Recipients. We have now given 23 Golder Alumni MacBook Pro Laptops for college since 2012! This year, Marisol Salazar (2020 - DePaul University), Daniela Vasquez (2020 - Illinois College), Fransua Gradiz (2013 - Loyola University) and Alicia Perez (2018 - National Louis University) all earned laptops. We choose recipients based on an essay contest. The Race siblings read through the essays and determine winners each year on Mother’s Day.
In addition to raising her daughter, Bella, Alicia is studying human services and hopes to work “with and for children”. Fransua recently earned his Bachelor’s Degree and is excited to continue his journey as a graduate student at Loyola pursuing a certification in corporate litigation and intellectual property. Marisol hopes to major in Spanish and possibly minor in German. She recently was awarded the James T. and Michelle A. Ryan Family Scholarship, which offers her a full ride to DePaul! Daniela hopes to study Criminology and is proud to be a first generation college student. To learn more about Golder College Prep, click here!

Congratulations to our tech-inspired, 2020 OPRF grad and Terri Race Tech Fund recipient, Evan Bodzioney! We are always thrilled to help support a fellow OPRF Alum in their quest to change the world through technology! Evan spent 4 years volunteering at the World Computer Exchange which refurbishes computers and sends them to under resourced regions of the globe. Congrats, Evan!
We are proud to announce our partnership with Opportunity Knocks and are even happier that co-founder, Mike Carmody and several of the program’s warriors came out to Terri’s Race this year! We were able to provide funds for the staff to purchase new computers for the first time in ten years that will allow them to better service their participants and facilitate their programming. This is the beginning of a long partnership with OK!!
